Features German PlateFinder
Germany's system of locale-based license plate prefixes dates from 1906, modified periodically in intervening years.
In general, the prefixes identify where plates are issued. This version has been updated with recent information.
Beginning November 1, 2012, the system was expanded, often assigning multiple prefixes—perhaps as many as six or seven codes—to a single district.
Additionally, there are now instances where a single prefix code is used by multiple districts.
In cases where the prefix code doesn't seem to match the name of the city or district, a neighboring or encompassed/encompassing locale from which the prefix was derived will often explain the code's origin.German PlateFinder will help travelers, students, and other interested parties learn and appreciate German geography and history.
The app lists the codes in use today, together with the issuing city, district or government agency that corresponds to each.
Selecting an entry displays a map that shows the issuer's location.
In most cases, the map view includes a button that displays a related Wikipedia page.
